SINCE 1966 / ITABASHI, TOKYO

We take on the work others have turned down.

Bespoke furniture, fixtures and complex 3D fabrication in Tokyo.

From interpreting design intent to machining, assembly and finishing, YATSUKI WOODWORKS works alongside architects and designers to turn ideas into physical form.

01 / ABOUT US

Turning design intent into physical form since 1966.

YATSUKI WOODWORKS is a manufacturing company based in Itabashi, Tokyo.

Since 1966, we have produced bespoke furniture, fixtures and custom-fabricated objects for architectural, commercial and residential projects.

Our work begins by understanding the intention behind each design — including what cannot always be fully expressed in drawings or data.

We then determine how that intention can be made real: through materials, processes, machining, assembly and finishing.

Our strength lies not in any single material or method, but in finding the right way to make each project possible.

Making what hasn’t been made.
02 / OUR APPROACH

The right process begins with understanding the intention.

We read what the drawing cannot say.

Every project presents different requirements.

Shape, material, finish, quantity, schedule and budget all influence how something should be made.

Rather than applying the same process to every project, we examine the design, identify potential challenges and determine an appropriate method of production.

Digital tools are an extension of the craftsperson’s hands.

3D CAD/CAM, CNC routers, robotic machining and other technologies let us take on greater complexity, accuracy and speed.

However capable the tool, it is the craftsperson who brings out what it can do.

Machining creates the form. Our craftspeople interpret, adjust, assemble and finish it.

Technology expands what our craftspeople can make — and their judgement determines how well it is made.

03 / CAPABILITIES

What we can do

01

Bespoke Furniture & Fixtures

Custom furniture, built-in furniture and fixtures for commercial spaces, offices, residences and other architectural environments.

02

3D CAD / CAM

Preparation and interpretation of 3D data for complex fabrication, including machining strategies tailored to materials and geometry.

03

CNC & 5-Axis Machining

Precision machining for complex curves, detailed forms and components that are difficult to produce with conventional processes alone.

04

Robotic 3D Machining

Robotic machining for large-scale and complex three-dimensional forms, including materials beyond wood.

05

3D Scanning

Digitisation of existing objects and complex forms that are difficult to reproduce from drawings alone.

06

Laser Cutting & Engraving

Laser cutting and engraving for wood, acrylic, paper, leather and other compatible materials.

07

Foam 3D Machining

Three-dimensional machining of expanded polystyrene and other foam materials for prototypes, objects and large-scale forms.

08

Production from One-Offs to Multiple Units

From one-off custom pieces to small-batch and repeated production, we select processes suited to the required quantity, accuracy and finish.

ONE-STOP

Integrated project support

We coordinate painting, metalwork, glasswork and other specialist processes as required for each project.

04 / PROCESS

From intention to form.

01 — Understand

We begin with the drawings, data and conversation.

Our first task is to understand not only what has been specified, but the intention behind the design.

02 — Plan

We examine geometry, materials, construction, finish, quantity and schedule, then determine how the project can be made.

Where necessary, we prepare or adjust 3D data and machining strategies before production begins.

03 — Make

We select the processes and equipment appropriate to each part of the work.

CNC routers, robotic systems, conventional woodworking machinery and other tools become part of the same manufacturing process.

Machining creates the form. Our craftspeople interpret, adjust, assemble and refine it throughout production.

04 — Finish

Accuracy alone does not define the finished result.

Assembly, surface quality, edge details, touch and appearance are checked and adjusted by our craftspeople until the work meets the required standard.

05 / OUR CRAFT

Craftsmanship carried forward.

Our team brings together experienced craftspeople, younger makers and specialists in digital design and machining.

Working as one team, we share knowledge, examine challenges together and refine the way each project is made.

Nearly half of our craftspeople hold Grade 1 Certified Skilled Worker of Furniture Making — Japan’s national certification in furniture making.

Experience is passed from one generation to the next, while each new project creates an opportunity to learn and develop.

Where work feels unsafe, people hold back — and they are right to. We put safety first so that no one has to.

Preparation, equipment checks and clear communication come before the work itself.

A safe workplace is what lets our people try new methods and keep developing their craft.

06 / OUR PHILOSOPHY

We give form to what people imagine — through the craft of woodworking, and the will to take it on.

For over sixty years, we have grown into a workshop people trust — one they turn to knowing, “Yatsuki can handle it.”

Our strengths have been a high standard of finish, speed, and the will to take on new technology. We have kept going, single-mindedly, to give form to what someone imagined.

For us, woodworking means more than shaping wood. It includes work by hand and by machine, and the wider skills and spirit of making that grow from it — extending to new materials and methods as each project requires.

We work to make the most of limited resources — in the material we use, and in what we pass on.

From here, we want to help open up the future of the woodworking industry. A more open culture. A better place to work.

We would rather care too much than too little.

More conversation. Better ways of making things.

All of it, so that what someone imagines can take form.

More making, together.
07 / COLLABORATION
NEXT GEN.

Supporting the next generation of makers.

Making grows from shared knowledge and new perspectives.

We share what we know with student-led engineering and creative projects, helping young teams work out how an idea can be made real.

Since 2026, we have supported WindBreaker, a STEM Racing team based in Tokyo. The team placed second in the Japanese national final and competed at the 2026 STEM Racing World Finals in Singapore.

STEM Racing is an international STEM education programme supported by Formula 1. Teams design, engineer and race their own miniature cars, and run the project themselves — from engineering through to marketing and funding.

For us, supporting the next generation is part of building the future of making.
